Photography has been my hobby and creative outlet for decades. When I retired a few years ago, I was free to spend all the time I wanted on my favorite hobbies – cooking, reading, travel, and photography - and became even more energized around that creative process.
Having started out with film medium and darkroom processing, I now work with a couple of digital cameras and photo software applications. Not a fan of Photoshop, I primarily use another program and endeavor to process RAW digital files into eye catching, detailed images, mostly by modifying the quality and intensity of light and shadows. I think of photography as seeing the world a little differently, of seeing everyday things with a slightly altered perspective. Nothing is more perishable than time; this second, right now, is now already gone forever. To capture a moment in time, to capture light in its more or less permanent form, light and shadow, the essence of photography, is the creative challenge. My aim is that my photographs are occasionally able to inspire moments of joy, reflection, inspiration, insight, awe or whimsy within those who see them. I hope you enjoy them. Some of my favorites quotes on photography: “Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst.” ― Henri Cartier-Bresson “What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.” ― Karl Lagerfeld “To the complaint, 'There are no people in these photographs,' I respond, there are always two people: the photographer and the viewer.” ― Ansel Adams “When people look at my pictures, I want them to feel the way they do when they want to read a line of a poem twice.” ― Robert Frank |
